Tufts AI Safety Student Association and Tech@Fletcher are excited to announce Tufts’ first annual AI Policy Hackathon–an opportunity for anyone interested in AI, governance, technology, and policy to make an impact.
The Challenge
Tufts University, known for its blend of humanities strengths and technological innovation, has always encouraged students to think across disciplines. As AI continues to influence nearly every aspect of our lives, we wanted to bring students together to examine its impacts and explore solutions in a manner that would provide students with real-world skills. Participants–whether undergraduate, graduate, or law students; more policy or tech-oriented–will gain hands-on experience by writing policy briefs, technological proposals, and addressing real-world issues.
Participants with a focus either in tech or policy are welcome.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is included!
Tracks
AI x Cyber/CBRN: Design a policy framework to prevent, deter, or respond to AI-enabled cyber and CBRN risks. Proposals should tackle governance gaps like attribution, liability, and incident reporting by pitching a new regulatory body, mandatory set of standards, or disclosure mechanisms.
Intl. AI Bodies and Treaties: Create an international governance body or treaty for AI that survives the realities of great power politics, sovereignty, and verification challenges. Produce a policy brief justifying this proposal through clear and feasible enforcement mechanisms, historical precedent, and reference to existing international AI governance frameworks.
How to Participate
In teams of 3-5, participants will collaborate to write up 3-5 page policy proposals based on their selected track. We welcome undergraduates, graduates, and law students!
