A Letter to the AI+X Global Talent Community

07/31/2025

About GTC & Our Journey

BlendED was founded in Kendall Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts—widely recognized as the heart of global innovation—and has welcomed thousands of exceptional students from over 20 countries, both online and in person.

Supported by renowned partners such as MIT Open Learning, HBS Online, and a network of top researchers and industry experts, our programs quickly gained momentum, especially among high-potential learners from leading universities around the world.

Till today (Aug 2025), we’ve built a strong and rapidly growing global network:

  • 160+ institutions

  • 60+ student clubs

  • And a reputation for delivering something rare:
real-world AI+X learning, grounded in elite academic content and powered by a global, peer-driven community.

I’ve been here since day one. And we’ve seen the transformation that happens when talented students are given access:

They meet MIT faculty.
They pitch ideas to senior leaders at global companies.
They attend invite-only events, explore cutting-edge labs, and grow in confidence—supported by peers from every corner of the world.

But we’ve also seen what happens when they’re left out.

Too often, brilliant students are forced to say no—not because they lack ability, but because of barriers like:

  • Financial constraints

  • Limited AI expertise at their university

  • A lack of exposure to global opportunities

  • And for students in the arts, humanities, law, or social sciences—even when they’re eager to engage with AI—there are few pathways to begin

This shouldn’t be the norm.
Especially not when 7 in 10 college students worldwide still lack access to formal AI education.
That’s over 160 million learners without the tools they need to lead in a world transformed by AI.

The Birth of GTC

In May 2025, I decided to act.

I asked our academic team:

Who are the most committed learners in our AI+X Learning Plan right now?

Then, I reached out to them directly:

  • John, Erin, and Sean in South Korea

  • Haru in Japan

  • Nam from Germany and Alice from Hong Kong, both studying in Japan

  • Yasmeen in Singapore

  • Rumaisa from Pakistan, now studying in Singapore

  • Alan in Mexico

Every single one replied. Every single one said yes.
And just like that, the AI+X Global Talent Community—GTC—was born.

These founding students self-organized.
We held meetings a few times a month.
And within weeks—supported by BlendED—they flew to Tokyo to host GTC’s first in-person networking event.

Their passion, creativity, and sense of shared responsibility showed me something powerful:

This isn’t just a program. It’s a movement.
Not just a community—but a global response to a global challenge.
And it’s led by the very learners it’s meant to serve.

Why GTC Exists

Because here’s the truth:
7 in 10 college students around the world still lack access to formal AI education.
Not because they aren’t capable—but because of financial barriers, faculty limitations, and lack of awareness or access.
Especially for non-STEM students, the entry points into AI are few and far between.

GTC was created to change that.
